Volkswagen says that if you’re not happy with one of its new electric ID models after three months, you can just give it back. Isn’t that nice?
The company’s so-called new ‘ID.Promise’ covers the ID models 3, 4, 5, 7 and 7 Tourer and runs through until 31 March 2026. So why not get one of each and see which one you like best? You can check out our Volkswagen reviews here.
Volkswagen says the latest research shows that four out of five EV drivers really like their cars and will get another electric one, but on the off chance an electric car doesn’t suit a new buyer’s lifestyle or they change their mind it’s willing to take it back.
If you send the car back you will have to pay a 3% fixed usage charge and the cost of any damage you might have incurred during the time. To qualify for the offer you have to either buy the car in cash or sign up for one of Volkswagen’s PCP deals, so lease, fleet or Motability customers don’t count. Buyers will have a window of 80 to 100 days after getting the car to decide they don't like it and give it back.
Rod McLeod, director of Volkswagen UK, hopes that the offer will give hesitant buyers a chance to try EVs out. “Official figures show more than 1.3 million UK motorists have already converted to electric, and time and time again our customers tell us they would never go back to petrol or diesel having made the move,” he says.“But there are many more people who want to go electric but feel unsure. This straightforward initiative gives them the perfect opportunity to ‘drive and decide’ with no strings attached.”
You can hand back your ID badged VW until March 2026 if you don't like it...
