EV charging firm InstaVolt has launched reduced-rate charging at its new Winchester Superhub – now one of the most affordable ultra-rapid pay-as-you-go (PAYG) charging sites in the UK.

From midday on Thursday 17 April 2025, drivers using the InstaVolt app or RFID card can access off-peak rates from just 50p per kWh between 7pm and 7am daily. That undercuts many rival ultra-rapid providers, with InstaVolt citing on-site energy innovations as key to keeping costs down.

The pricing move coincides with the full launch of InstaVolt’s largest and most advanced hub to date. Strategically placed near the A34 and M3, the Winchester site caters to long-distance EV drivers, commuters and commercial users alike, and features 44 rapid 160kW charge points, extended bays for vans and towing vehicles and fully accessible bays. On-site facilities include a Starbucks, play area and dog walking zone.

Crucially, the site includes an 870-panel solar farm and battery storage system with 960kW/4MWh capacity, enabling it to operate with reduced reliance on the national grid. This energy self-sufficiency helps buffer against electricity price fluctuations and supports more consistent pricing.

InstaVolt CEO Delvin Lane said the investment allows the company to “pass savings directly to drivers” while improving the sustainability of its network.

The Superhub is seen as a blueprint for future charging infrastructure, combining high capacity with driver-friendly facilities. EV users can access the new rates by using the InstaVolt app.
