Renault has added a second motor to the new 4 to create a 4x4! Unveiled at the Roland-Garros tennis tournament, the Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept is a show car which it says is designed for the modern-day “gentleman explorer” and gives more than a hint at a future 4x4 4 which is set for production next year.
Ground clearance is 15 mm higher on Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept than on the normal Renault 4 E-Tech electric and it uses special Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ 225/55 tyres – still 18-inch – with specific “Savane” wheels. The front and rear tracks are 10 mm wider. The second electric motor on the rear axle gives instant all-wheel-drive capability.

The Savane features bodywork in Jade Green, a new colour, which is underlined by gloss black bumpers and wheel arches. The roof features a printed fabric. The conventional front and rear bumpers are replaced by new 3D-printed parts with shock-absorbing properties. A specific “4Savane” logo can be seen on the side of the vehicle, while the tailgate has a special 4x4 badge.
The interior has seats in Deep Brown refined textile (TEP) fabric. At the top of the backrest, a quilted pattern features of number 4s. A houndstooth pattern is on the backrest trim and lateral reinforcements.

The dashboard is also clad in Deep Brown refined textile. Top-stitching runs in a horizontal line, through to the driver and passenger door panels. A backlit 4Savane logo on the dashboard strip gives the show car its signature.
There’s no hint of prices yet, but expect the 4 4x4 to cost around £32,000.
