The new Kia PV5 Passenger electric people carrier and the PV5 wheelchair-accessible variant (WAV) will be available from the Motability Scheme, thanks to an agreement signed between the two this week.

While the agreements starts with the PV5, Kia says that it will offer its larger PV7 on the scheme in 2027, and plans to work with Motability to develop a bespoke accessible vehicle off the same platform it’s using for the PV-badged models.

The new PV5 WAV will feature side entry through the sliding middle door and a 300kg capacity ramp, as well as a wheelchair belt fastening system that Kia says it has developed specially. Kia says that as well as the physical changes to the PV5, it will also be able to make software accommodations thanks to the use of Google’s open source Android setup.

There's no word yet on what specifications of PV5 WAV will be offered – the standard version of the PV5 is available with two trim levels and two battery sizes, 43kWh and 71kWh, offering either 193 or 243 miles of WLTP range. The electric vehicle will be available to order in the first half of 2026, with initial models being modified in the UK. In the second half of the year Kia will be setting up its Hwaseong factory in Korea to produce its own WAV variants alongside other versions of the PV5.

The flexible architecture that the PV5 is being built on means that the EV will have up to 17 variants on offer, including seven-seater, pickup truck and camper van options.

Andrew Miller, CEO of Motability, welcomed the new partnership. “By sharing our customer and WAV market insight with Kia’s design teams, we’re taking the next step toward creating a purpose-built electric WAV. This collaboration supports our long-term goals and helps us take the next step in creating a purpose-built electric WAV to protect disabled people’s mobility through the EV transition.”

There are 57 electric vehicles currently available on the scheme, from the Leapmotor T03 to the Ford e-Tourneo Custom. There’s no word yet on the price of the WAV version of the PV5, but we were impressed when we drove the Kia that it offers a lot of flexibility yet is even cheaper than rivals like the Citroen ë-Spacetourer

The van version of the PV5 - the Cargo - recently set a distance record of 431 miles on a single charge while carrying its maximum payload capacity of 665kg, taking over 22 hours to empty its 71.2kWh battery.
